Budget 2027: What It Means for Pharmacists

Budget 2027 introduces several changes that could affect pharmacists and pharmacy owners across personal tax, investments and longer-term wealth planning.

Some of the key changes include:

Changes from 7 October 2026

- Capital Gains Tax - reduces from 33% to 31% for disposals from 7 October 2026

Changes from 1 Jan 2027

- The standard-rate cut off point - increases by €2,500 to €46,500

- Pensions – Standard Fund Threshold – increases from €2.2m to €2.4m

Another important development is the new Investment Account, due to launch from 1 July 2027. Contributions will be limited to €12,000 per year, with a €50,000 tax-free threshold and a 1% annual tax applying to values above that level.

For pharmacists accumulating wealth through pensions, investments and their business, Budget 2027 provides a useful opportunity to review how each part of your financial plan fits together.

Budget measures remain subject to Finance (No. 2) Bill 2026 and subsequent guidance.
